NDE Plans Job Opportunities for Graduates Through GAP (Graduate Attachment Programme)

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has said that it is providing job opportunities for graduates through its Graduate Attachment Programme (GAP).

The NDE Coordinator for Kaduna state, Alhaji Isa Tandama, said this yesterday in Kaduna. He said that the programme was designed to bridge the gap between the work experience requirement demanded by employers as condition for employment.

According to him, the scheme would provide an opportunity for the beneficiary to make himself indispensable to the employer through his contributions to the organization within a period of six months.

"GAP is another programme under special public programme targeted at Degree and HND holders," he said. According to Tandama, GAP is still running in the state hut due to cash constraint, only 20 youths were recruited instead of the usual 50. He said increasing the number of youths to go for training was impossible due to financial challenges.

He explained that the training would make the youths become acquainted with happenings in other organisations and prove their worth to be engaged.

"The programme engages the youth for a period of six months and we identify institutions and organizations where we feel their services are needed based on their field of studies. "We send them to the organization with letters to be recruited for the stipulated period."

The coordinator said GAP would enable the beneficiaries acquire the necessary work skills during the service months.
