Field Assistant/Driver, Vacancy at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA)
Job Title: Field Assistant/Driver - Ibadan (2-year renewable contract)


Duties

  • Successful candidate will among other things perform the following:
  • Drive with the Research Associate to the various locations, during planting, fertilizer application, data recording and harvesting
  • Participate in all field operations, including planting, thinning, fertilizer application, data recording and harvesting in the various outside locations.
  • Transport field worker to the various blocks in Ibadan at the time of pollination and harvesting.
  • Supervise laborers during planning, thinning, fertilizer application, and harvesting
  • Supervise weighing of plot yields in the various locations after harvesting and record accurate field weights in field books.
  • Transport fertilizer and other farm inputs to the various locations in northern Nigeria when needed.
  • Participate in seed processing, trial preparation and packaging before the main season.
  • Drive with scientists to different locations and from airports and other locations as required.
  • Perform any other duty assigned by supervisor
  • Qualification and Experience
  • OND plus a minimum of 5 years driving experience and working with scientist in research fields is desirable.
  • The ideal candidate must
  • Have good communication skills and be honest;
  • Be able to follow instructions and work independently where necessary;
  • Be available to work outside office hours, weekends and holidays.
